Working hard for Wales in Europe

Welsh Labour MEP welcomes Bangor University students to European Parliament

Derek Vaughan, Labour MEP for Wales, last week welcomed a group of students from Bangor University to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

After a tour of the Parliament and a briefing on the Parliament’s role in the European political process, the students met with Mr Vaughan to learn more about his role as an MEP.

Welsh Labour MEP DEREK VAUGHAN said:

"Every year, hundreds of people from all across Wales come to Brussels or Strasbourg to learn more about the EU and what it does.

It was great to have the chance to meet with the students from Bangor University and to take some of their questions about how the Parliament works and hear their views on Wales’ future working alongside our European partners.

It is important that young people get the opportunity to learn more about the EU as it has major effect on how ordinary people live their day-to-day lives back in Wales.

These visits are an essential part of ensuring that the next generation starts to understand the European political system and can relay their own ideas and experiences directly to their elected representatives.”
