Welsh Labour MEP welcomes job skills funding boost for Neath Port Talbot

Over 800 people currently out of work in Neath Port Talbot will be helped to improve their job hunting skills thanks to a £1.5 million investment by the European Social Fund.

The Strides – Sustainable Training Initiative Developing Employment Skills – Alliance will assist jobseekers in improving their motivation, low self-esteem and other factors which may have proved a barrier when they have previously attempted to gain employment.

Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, a former leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, said:

“The scheme is targeted at people who have become economically inactive and will provide them with a helping hand back onto the jobs ladder.”

“This announcement is more welcome than ever, particularly given the current economic climate.  It will provide much needed help for those people who are long-term unemployed to overcome the challenges they face.”

“By building up their skills and confidence in a community based setting, they will now have a better opportunity to fulfil their true potential and return to meaningful employment.”

The NSA Strides Alliance scheme will receive £2.4m worth of funding.  £1.5m comes from the European Social Fund with the rest coming from the Welsh Assembly Government.
