Welsh green jobs scheme boosted by £6m EU cash

Derek Vaughan MEP

A scheme targeted at creating almost 100 green jobs in West Wales and the Valleys using £6m worth of investment from the European Regional Development has been welcomed by Welsh Labour MEP, Derek Vaughan.

The “Accelerating Reprocessing Infrastructure Development” (ARID) will support local small and medium sized businesses in the environmental, recycling and manufacturing sectors.

“This announcement shows that the EU and the Welsh Government are placing the green economy at the top of the agenda.”

“By investing in companies and sectors that are looking to increase recycling rates and the use of recycled content in their products, the environmental and job creation benefits are clear.”

“A total of £14m is being ploughed into West Wales and the Valleys with this project, supporting almost 50 enterprises and producing 96 new jobs until 2015.  Given the difficult economic climate, this is a great opportunity to help grow the SME sector in these areas and address important environmental issues at the same time.”
