Representatives of Higher Education, Further Education, the Third Sector, Job Centre Plus, Careers Wales, local authorities and private businesses are coming together to drive up standards in skills, learning and regeneration in South West Wales as part of a scheme that will receive £1m of EU Convergence Funding.

The Regional Learning Partnership Project, covering Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, aims to grow and strengthen collaboration between the various bodies and share best practice and information so that the area can be better prepared for the economic challenges of the future.

Supported with £1m from the European Social Fund, confirmed this week, total investment in the project is expected to reach £1.8m.

Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN MEP, former leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council which will co-ordinate the Partnership, said:

“This project is an excellent example of how organisations in South West Wales are working together to combine resources and expertise so that services for learners and employers can be more responsive and forward looking.”

“It will make a valuable contribution in collecting and collating information so that we can assess what is needed in terms of skills and training in the area.  We will then be able to create the basis, from that data, for attracting and developing more highly skilled, sustainable employment in the region.”
