Mid Wales to benefit from £3.5m EU boost

EU flag

Over £7.5m worth of investment is to be ploughed into communities in the Severn Valley as part of a regeneration scheme that will benefit three town centres, two business parks and help to support new start up local businesses.

The scheme, which has been backed to the tune of £3.5m from the Competitiveness European Regional Development Fund with the remaining funding met by the Welsh Assembly Government and Powys County Council, has been welcomed by the area’s Labour MEP.

DEREK VAUGHAN MEP said:

“This is a significant shot in the arm for the local economy in Mid Wales.”

“Welshpool, Newtown and Llanidloes town centre will benefit from improvements to shop fronts and commercial properties whilst disused facilities across the Severn Valley will be refurbished and used to help support new start ups in the region as well as attracting new businesses.”

“The further development of Offa’s Dyke and Abermule Business Parks will be key in determining the economic future of the area by creating and protecting valuable jobs.”
