MEP visits “cutting edge” National Product Design Centre

Welsh Labour MEP, Derek Vaughan recently visited (21 May 2010) the world leading “National Centre for Product Design & Development Research” at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff to discover more about how Wales-based companies are benefitting from its work.

The Centre, which has been operating for 16 years, combines engineering expertise and new technology in the fields of product design, prototyping and manufacture.  It has been awarded 13 major international awards in the last four years alone.

Derek Vaughan MEP, said:

“I am delighted to have been able to visit UWIC again to see at first hand the contribution it is making in supporting manufacturing in Wales.  The Centre uses cutting edge technology and a range of specialist skills to deliver products from design to reality to a highly professional standard.”

“It is just the sort of facility that is helping Wales to compete in the global marketplace and I am sure that it will continue to allow local and national companies to prosper in the current difficult economic situation.”

“The manufacturing industry will underpin the long term recovery in Wales and we must invest in research, new methods, and knowledge development to ensure that more, sustainable highly paid jobs are created in the future.”
