Albert Owen MP was joined by Derek Vaughan MEP on a visit to Wylfa and has reaffirmed his call to extend the generating life of Wylfa beyond 2010.
Commenting on the visit, Albert Owen said,
"It is essential we maximise the safe generating life of Wylfa in order to keep as many jobs as possible in the area and to bridge the gap in the run up to Wylfa B.
I have led the campaign for both an extension to Wylfa and for new build and I am delighted to have the support of my colleague Derek Vaughan MEP, who has already raised the issue of Wylfa and nuclear power at a European level."
Albert Owen MP and Derek Vaughan MEP were both given a tour of the Wylfa site and met with workers, including a number of apprentices.
Derek Vaughan MEP said,
"I was impressed with the safety culture at the site and also with the enthusiasm of the apprentices who are vital to the future of the island's economy."
Albert Owen MP and Derek Vaughan MEP will continue to work with the unions, management and skills providers to build a strong skills base necessary for Wylfa and the Energy Island Concept.
