Labour Euro MP visits EU funded projects in Powys

Wagyu Beef Farm Visit, Abermule, Powys - 24 June 2011

Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, today (Fri 24 June 2011) visited Welshpool, Garthmyl and Abermule, to see for himself how Mid Wales has benefitted from European Funding.

Mr Vaughan met with councillors, including Regeneration Cabinet Member, Cllr Wynne Jones, and officials of Powys County Council to discuss how EU money is transforming the economic landscape locally and helping to bring a number of developments including the £7.5m Severn Valley Regeneration Scheme to fruition.

Starting with a visit to the Offa’s Dyke Business Park (Welshpool), Mr Vaughan then continued on to the Nag’s Head (Garthmyl) before finishing at the Wagyi Beef Farm in Abermule (pictured above).

Commenting during his visit, Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, said:

“It is always good to see at first hand concrete examples of how EU investment is helping to develop the local economy, sustain long-term jobs and make the area a more attractive environment for tourism and business.”

“Mid Wales is clearly a great place to do business.  With European assistance playing a vital role, the building blocks are being put in place to ensure that a more prosperous future for communities in the region can be created.”
