Swansea City Football Club’s promotion to the Premier League has been recognised in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, a lifelong fan of the club, praised Swansea City’s achievements when addressing fellow MEPs in the Parliament’s plenary session yesterday (6 June).
Mr Vaughan, who played Welsh League football as a goalkeeper and was capped five times by Welsh schoolboys, said:
"The rise of the Swans into the Premier League has been truly inspirational and a joy to watch. Considering that not so long ago, they nearly went out of league football, it is thanks to the tremendous hard work of the players, coaches and the club’s board that they will soon be playing the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool next season.
The loyalty of the fans has also been a key factor.
Undoubtedly, being in the Premier League will raise the profile not only of the club but also of the surrounding area. That can only be good for Wales and for attracting more visitors from around the UK and further afield."
