Welsh Labour MEP, Derek Vaughan, recently paid a visit to the Parc Eirias Events Centre, Colwyn Bay, in the week that construction on site for the new cultural, leisure and sporting centre was completed.
Mr Vaughan saw for himself last Friday (30 Sept 2011) the work that has been done to create a large multi-purpose indoor centre for community, business and conference use as well as a new upgraded WRU International Standard rugby pitch, 2500 seater grandstand, floodlights and changing facilities.
The £6.5m project received £3.8m worth of support leveraged in via the European Regional Development Fund and will be officially opened by First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM, in November.
DEREK VAUGHAN MEP, who received a tour of the site with Cllr Chris Hughes and Mali Tiddeswell, Centre Manager, said:
"Parc Eirias is a great example of how EU funding is making a huge difference to communities on the ground in North Wales.
It is going to be a fantastic facility that will benefit not just the people of Colwyn Bay but those from the surrounding area as well. The regeneration scheme will provide a brand new venue for cultural, community and sporting events helping to drive Colwyn Bay and North Wales forward.
The hard work of everybody involved in the project is now coming to fruition and it is exciting to see the impact that the EU investment is having in Colwyn Bay."
