Euro funding boost for Llanelli cultural regeneration plans

EU flag

Over £5 million of European Regional Development Funding will be ploughed into a project to create a new entertainment, arts and culture venue in Llanelli Town Centre.

The scheme, which will cost £14.6 million in total is also supported by Carmarthenshire County Council, the Welsh Assembly Government and other key partners.  It will involve the construction of a brand new cultural and creative centre and the renovation of two Grade II listed buildings – Zion Chapel and the Old School.

Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, said:

“The investment is a sign of confidence in the future of Llanelli and in the West Wales region as a whole.”

“Creating 35 jobs and providing a much needed arts facility, the European funding allocated to the project will be used to further deepen the economic, cultural and social regeneration of this part of Carmarthenshire.”

“I am confident that the project will also prove to be a lynchpin supporting future investment that will prove to be of huge benefit to local businesses and local people.”
