EU PDR funding boost will transform Port Talbot

A major road infrastructure project for Port Talbot worth £107m will finally go ahead after confirmation that it will receive millions of pounds of EU funding was announced today.

The Port Talbot Peripheral Distributor Road, jointly financed by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Union, is set to create 600 hundred jobs during construction and link Junction 38 of the M4 with the town’s docklands area.

Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, a former leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, commented:

“The PDR is a key lynchpin for the future development of Port Talbot and opens up a vast expanse of land for the town to expand and grow.  It has the potential to completely transform the local economy, providing long term job opportunities and enhancing the docklands for many generations to come.”

“Journey times will be cut, congestion, particularly at peak times, will be reduced and more investment will hopefully be attracted as a result of this massive regeneration scheme.”

“I am pleased that the European Union has stepped in and given its full support to the last stage of the project.  I worked on the plans when I was Leader of the Council and have continued to lobby hard on the matter ever since.  It will deliver for the people of Neath Port Talbot, proposals that have been on the drawing board for a while and finally turn them into reality.”
