A major £8.3m regeneration project to give Bargoed town centre a facelift has received the support of the European Regional Development Fund to the tune of £3.2m.
The scheme will support:
- A new bus station in the northern end of the town close to the railway station
- Improvements and landscaping to High Street and Hanbury Road
- A new civic space on the existing bus station site on Hanbury Square
Welsh Labour MEP, DEREK VAUGHAN, said:
“I am delighted that Bargoed has been awarded such a significant level of investment to breathe new life into its town centre.
The announcement today is great news and shows how important European funding is to Wales. It will be a huge boost to the local economy, creating employment for people living in the area as it recovers from the effects of the recent economic downturn.
The measures will enhance the built environment in Bargoed and bring some vibrancy back into the town centre for shoppers, businesses and residents alike."
